Andorra: the location of the new Carmen Thyssen Museum, which will open in March

Carmen Cervera, the Baroness Thyssen, is finishing the details of the new Carmen Thyssen Museum, which will open its doors on March 16th in the parish of Escaldes-Engordany, in Andorra.

Baroness Thyssen's close relationship with Andorra

Carmen Cervera established her fiscal residence in Andorra in 1992, and her son Borja Thyssen is also fully rooted in Andorra. Carmen Cervera and Borja bought two twin houses in the urbanization Can Diumenge, in Escaldes-Engordany, under the advice of Inmobiliaria Superior.

As an expert in art and patron of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection Foundation, Baroness Thyssen, after establishing her residence in Andorrastrong>, has already announced with Borja the creation of an institution dedicated to art in Andorra. Baroness Thyssen has counted on the professional advice of Inmobiliaria Superior in this process, which has culminated in the opening of the Carmen Thyssen Museum in Andorra this 2017 thanks to a joint collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, the Escaldes-Engordany Town Hall and the Fundació Museu Andorra.

The Carmen Thyssen Andorra Museum will occupy some 500 m2 and will be located on the ground floor of one of the most emblematic buildings of the Principality, the old Hotel Valira (Avenida Carlemany, 37)strong>. In addition to the exhibition, it will house an educational area, a shop, ticket offices and a meeting space.

Guillermo Cervera, the nephew of the baroness, will be the artistic director of the Carmen Thyssen Andorra Museum. He studied museology in London and has known the collection of the Baroness Thyssen for more than 20 years.

The first exhibition of the Carmen Thyssen Museum Andorra will be called Escenarios. From Monet to Estes. From Trouville to New Yorkstrong> and will show 26 paintings from the baroness's collection. It will be a fantastic journey through the main pictorial trends from the end of the 19th century to the hyperrealism of the 20th century, with works by artists such as Ramon Casas, Anglada Camarasa, Gauguin, Matisse, Monet, Sisley, Signac, Kirchner, Richard Estesstrong>, among others. The museum's exhibitions will be temporary and of long duration, that is to say, of about 11-12 months, to offer then a new exhibition to the visitors to the Principality of Andorra.
